COVID-19 Quick Advice: Support for business

Many businesses of all sizes across the UK have been hard hit by the sudden and unprecedented economic impact of the coronavirus outbreak.

However, there are many sources of assistance and advice to help businesses get through this very difficult period and come out the other end.

This table provides an overview of the various support schemes currently available to businesses:

Find Business Support (FBS) – is part of a joint response by Scotland’s Enterprise and Skills ‘system’ (Agencies, Local Authorities, Scottish Government and business/industry organisations) and provides a regularly updated business advice relating to COVID-19

COVID-19 helpline for Scottish businesses

The business helpline number is 0300 303 0660. The helpline will be open Monday to Friday 8.30am to 5.30pm.

Paying your employees – claim to cover up to 80% of wages for employees on temporary leave (‘furlough’) due to coronavirus

Paying sick pay – to reclaim employee’s coronavirus-related Statutory Sick Pay (SSP).

Portal for applications not yet open

Coronavirus Large Business Interruption Loan Scheme – All viable businesses with turnover of more than £45 million per year will be able to apply for up to £25 million of finance. Firms with a turnover of more than £250 million will be able to apply for up to £50 million of finance.

£25,000 grant retail, hospitality and leisure businesses

To apply, you’ll need to complete an application form. You can find this form on your local council website.

100% rates relief  – Retail, hospitality and leisure businesses

You do not need to apply for this relief and it will be applied to your bill by your local council.

A one-off grant of £10,000 – available to small businesses
