Shop local for Small Business Saturday

Iain Gray MSP is urging people in East Lothian to join him in supporting this year’s Small Business Saturday UK on 5th December by shopping locally and backing the county’s businesses.

Small Business Saturday is a grassroots, non-commercial campaign, which highlights small business success and encourages consumers to ‘shop local’ and support small businesses in their communities. The day itself takes place on the first Saturday in December each year, but the campaign aims to have a lasting impact on small businesses.

On Small Business Saturday, customers across the U.K. go out and support all types of small businesses, online, in offices and in stores. Many small businesses take part in the day by hosting events and offering discounts.

Mr Gray, who has supported the campaign every year since it started in 2013, said:

“Small Business Saturday is always a welcome opportunity to recognise and support the importance of SMEs. East Lothian has an exceptional range of small businesses and I’ve always been pleased to support the campaign and promote local enterprises.

“Due to the pandemic and the various public health restrictions it has necessitated, many businesses have suffered this year and need the support of local communities more than ever. I hope people will take on board the Small Business Saturday message and shop local in the weeks and months ahead.”
