The tenth anniversary of a ground-breaking local riding therapy service partnership has been hailed in a motion in the Scottish Parliament.
Iain Gray MSP’s motion congratulates NHS Lothian and West Fenton-based charity Muirfield Riding Therapy (MRT) on 10 years of delivering the Children’s Therapeutic Riding Service for young people with various disabilities in East and Mid Lothian.
Iain Gray MSP said:
“This innovative service, which was the first of its kind in Scotland, is clearly much-loved by the young people who have used it and has had a wonderful impact on them and their families.
“With this parliamentary motion, I’m pleased to acknowledge the partnership’s first 10 years and thank all the staff and volunteers who have delivered it for their dedicated work on the service.”

Title: 10 Years of the Children’s Therapeutic Riding Service
That the Parliament congratulates NHS Lothian and the charity, Muirfield Riding Therapy (MRT), on the 10th anniversary of their partnership delivering the Children’s Therapeutic Riding Service; understands that the service was the first and is still the largest service of its kind in Scotland, providing life-changing therapeutic riding, free of charge, to children and young people with various disabilities in East and Mid Lothian; understands that the Service provides hippotherapy, a specialist and highly effective form of physiotherapy, on horseback, which uses the movement, warmth and rhythm of the horse as a therapy tool, delivering positive therapeutic results as well as great fun for the children using the service, and thanks all the staff and volunteers involved in delivering the partnership for their dedicated work running this important and much-loved service.
